Is a Home Hybrid Battery Worth It?
Worried about losing power? Have solar panels but aren’t making the most of all your energy? Want to pay less and have more control? At Renovae Energy we explain how a home hybrid battery works and why it’s the most complete solution available today.
What exactly is a home hybrid battery?
A hybrid battery is a smart storage system that connects both to the conventional grid and to a solar PV installation (if you have one). It can store energy from both sources and release it when you need it most.
What if I don’t have solar panels?
No problem. You can also use it with the grid alone, charging it at night (when electricity is cheaper) and using it during the day. It’s ideal for homes without self-consumption but that want to optimise their usage.
Real advantages of having a hybrid battery at home
1. Backup power during outages
When the power goes out, the battery kicks in automatically and keeps the equipment you choose running: fridge, router, lighting, computers or even basic climate control.
2. Savings on your electricity bill
With a hybrid battery you can use your stored energy during the most expensive hours of the day and avoid price peaks. If you have solar panels, you make the most of every kilowatt generated. If not, you take advantage of your night-time tariff.
3. Smart energy management
These systems learn your consumption patterns and adapt automatically. What’s more, you can control everything from an app: charging, discharging, real-time consumption and more.
4. Portability in models with wheels
Some Renovae Energy models include wheels so you can move the battery between rooms if you need to. Ideal for large homes or second residences.
How is a home hybrid battery installed?
In most cases, installation takes less than 3 hours and requires no building work. The system connects to the consumer unit and, if you have solar panels, also to the inverter. At Renovae Energy we leave everything up and running and monitored.
How much autonomy can it give you?
It depends on its capacity (in kWh) and how you use it. For example:
- A 5 kWh battery can keep lighting, WiFi and the fridge running for 6–8 hours.
- With a 10 kWh one you can cover a home’s average consumption for more than half a day.
You can also combine two or more units if your needs are greater (large homes or heavy consumption).
When is it worth installing?
A hybrid battery is especially useful if:
- You have self-consumption and generate more than you consume
- You suffer frequent outages or live in a rural area
- You work from home or have equipment that can’t be switched off
- You want to save without changing your lifestyle
