How to Save on Your Electricity Bill This Summer Without Giving Up Comfort

At Grupo Renovae we know summer brings many good things… but also higher-than-usual electricity bills. Between air conditioning, more time at home and hotter days, it’s normal to notice an increase in consumption. But all is not lost: you can reduce what you pay without making big changes. Here’s how.

1. Set the air conditioning to the ideal temperature

One of the biggest mistakes is setting the thermostat below 22 °C. For every degree you lower it, you can consume up to 7–8% more energy.

The recommended temperature? Between 24 and 26 °C. It’s enough to be comfortable without straining the unit or spiking consumption.

2. Ventilate in the morning or at night

Make the most of the cooler hours to ventilate the house and close the blinds during the sunniest hours. This stops heat coming in and reduces the air conditioning’s workload.

3. Don’t leave the AC on all day

Often it doesn’t need to be on all the time. Schedule the automatic switch-off or use it in blocks: for example, only in the late afternoon or before bed.

4. Check whether your tariff is the right one

Did you know there are time-of-use tariffs that can reduce your bill if you consume more at night or during certain bands?

If you spend more time at home during certain hours, or only use the AC at night, you can save quite a bit with an adapted tariff. At Renovae we analyse your habits and help you choose the best one.

5. Watch out for phantom appliances

Devices on “stand-by” or plugged in without being used keep consuming. Switch off what you’re not using or use power strips with a switch to avoid that constant electrical drip.

6. Use appliances during off-peak hours

If you have a time-of-use tariff, schedule washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances to run in the early morning. It’s the simplest way to pay less.

7. Keep maintenance up to date

A dirty air-conditioning filter or a fridge that hasn’t been defrosted consumes much more. A basic check can help you save without realising.

8. If you have solar panels, optimise their use

Do you have a self-consumption installation? Try to concentrate your consumption during sunlight hours: that way you use your free energy instead of drawing from the grid.

And if you don’t have panels… there are more options!

From portable batteries to consumption-optimisation studies, at Renovae we offer solutions for every case, with or without installation.
