How Much Can You Save with Solar Panels in 2025?
At Renovae Energy we get a key question every day: is it really worth installing solar panels? The answer is yes, but the savings depend on several factors such as your consumption, the size of the installation or your electricity tariff. In this article we show you how to calculate it and what results you can expect this year.
What do solar savings depend on?
- Your annual electricity consumption: the higher it is, the more return you’ll get.
- The size and orientation of your installation: they affect energy production.
- Your contracted electricity tariff: it affects the value of the kWh you stop paying for.
- Whether or not you have batteries: this affects your total self-consumption capacity.
- Surplus compensation: it lets you recover money for the energy left over.
A practical savings example in 2025
Let’s take a home that consumes 4,500 kWh a year and contracts a 5 kW installation without a battery:
- Estimated annual production: 7,000 kWh
- Direct self-consumption: 30% (2,100 kWh)
- Surplus compensation: 3,500 kWh x €0.08/kWh = €280
- Estimated total savings: €210 (self-consumption) + €280 (compensation) = €490/year
In an average installation without a battery, savings can range between €400 and €700 a year, depending on usage. If a battery is added, these savings can rise to up to 70% of the annual bill.
What if electricity prices keep rising?
Then the savings will be even greater. One of the big benefits of installing solar panels is that you shield part of your consumption against future rises in the electricity market.
How long does it take to pay off the installation?
It will depend on the final price and the annual savings. But as a reference:
- Installation without a battery: payback in 6 to 8 years
- Installation with a battery: payback in 9 to 12 years
Remember that solar panels last more than 25 years, so you’ll have many years of net savings once the investment is recovered.
